Sea Turtle Release

This juvenile turtle was rescued by the Volusia Turtle Patrol on May 13, 2009. The turtle had a shell fracture, likely the result of a boat strike. The turtle was treated with antibiotics and bandaging as well of lots of special care by Disney’s Animal Program team members. The turtle's wound has healed and it has gained weight, so it is now ready for release in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Typically, juvenile green sea turtles are seen in inshore waters, which is where this turtle will likely return to forage on native sea grasses.

Green sea turtles are listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act, a federal law designated to protect critically imperiled species from extinction, administered by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
